Guiding Principles of my Psychotherapy Practice:
I am a Certified Internal Family Systems Therapist. My practice is guided by the understanding that within every human being, couple, family and community there is a well-spring for healing. It is through the sense of feeling free from judgement that we open a doorway to explore both our outward defenses and the authentic vulnerabilities we so naturally strive to protect. IFS therapy offers a process for building trust in one’s own guiding wisdom (Self-energy). Whether I'm working with individual people, couples, communities or families my focus is on creating space for the healing of bonds within ourselves and between loved ones. We have nothing without relationship and when we no longer need to overprotect we are free connect.
How I Became a Therapist:
My doorway into the practice of psychotherapy has been through the arts. I graduated from the full-time performance program at the Ecole Philippe Gaulier International School of Theatre in Paris, France and London, UK. When working with the community teaching theatre I experienced how the work opened people to the deeper tides of unexpressed grief, joy, anger, lostness, shame, tenderness and vulnerability. My theatre work was based in tapping into the pleasure to play. I discovered that the thawing of blocks to creative flow meant that the rising tides of unexpressed wounds needed a sacred space for healing.
Along this journey I received a Master of Social Work from Wilfrid Laurier University (specialization: individuals, families, groups), completed three years of training and supervision in Play Therapy and earlier on, an Honours Degree in Culture Studies (specialization: image, sound, performance). Over time I have also trained extensively in experiential psychotherapies such as Internal Family Systems Therapy, Mindfulness, Emotion Focused Therapy, Play Therapy, Trauma Focused Therapies and Expressive Arts Therapy modalities across the lifespan. I have expertise in the field of eating disorders, trauma, issues of childhood and adolescence, emotion regulation, anxiety, depression as well as attachment focused approaches for healing between family members. I am happy to be able to offer my onsite services in my hometown, Sault Ste. Marie and beyond via my online services.
